Why Choose Beech Flooring
Beech floors can range in colour from a light cream to a medium tan. Many people choose beech flooring as it gives warmth to a room, as there is regularly a hint of orange or pink in the grain. In relation to other hardwoods, beech flooring may experience some colour alteration over a period of years. Our engineered 3 strip beech flooring is a steamed beech wood which, after drying, has the distinctive pink and orange hints associated with it. Unsteamed beech wood, used in our engineered 1 strip flooring tends to give you a blonde, tanned look.
Beech has a uniform exterior with a straight grain, which makes it ideal for both residential and commercial uses wherever you want to achieve a contemporary look. Beech wood floors are good at holding stain and ours have a lacquered satin finish. European Beech is commonly used to make distinctive furniture and with its fine grain and pale hue it is very popular for a modern appearance in the home.

About Beech Flooring
Beech trees are found in parts of Europe, Asia and North America. Our beech flooring originates from Europe and is one of the most popular hardwood species, especially celebrated for its versatility and durability. The European Beech has the Latin name, Fagus sylvatica and its wood is of a medium hardness and a light beige colour with a hint of pink.
Beech trees grow to an average height of 80 feet, though many can grow up to 100 feet or more. In it’s natural habitat the beech tree will grow straight and tall, reaching over other trees to find the sun. Beech trees have a smooth, light, blue or grey bark, which keeps its sleek texture even as the tree ages. It’s leaves start off as dark green in colour but change in autumn to yellow and brown.
When the beech tree flowers, the blooms are small and yellowish-green. The beech can produce either male or female flowers distinguished by their colours and flowering habits. Female beech flowers grow in pairs and tend to have red borders while the male flowers are yellow and bloom in the early spring. The edible fruit of the beech tree are called beechnuts, sometimes referred to as beech mast and have a bitter, astringent after taste.
Beech wood makes a superb firewood as it can be easily split and burns brightly for a long time. Chips of beech wood are used to brew beer both in America and in Europe, as when the logs are burned to dry the malts they give off a smoky quality to flavour the drink. Beech is also used in the production of smoked cheese.
Some drums can be made from beech, which has a musical tone usually considered to be between maple and birch and the pulp is used as the foundation for producing the textile fibre known as Modal.
