Woods
We offer 21 different wood species which can be selected from when choosing your bespoke parquet floor. These include: Afromosia, American Black Cherry, American Black Walnut, American Red Oak, American White Oak, Ash, Bamboo Caramel, Bamboo Natural, Basralocus, Beech, French Oak, Canadian Maple, Iroko, Jatoba, Mahogany, Merbau, Padouk, Panga Panga, Purple Heart, Burmese Teak and Wenge.
Oak is the most popular choice of wood in our bespoke flooring designs. Customers can choose from American Red Oak, American White Oak and French Oak.
French Oak comes from France and is golden light brown in colour, of a medium hardness and has small knots and a dark grain.
American Red Oak and American White Oak are both of a medium hardness and similar to French Oak, with a hint of red and more variation in the colour.
American Black Walnut is also very popular for a dark wood floor. This wood comes from North America, is of a soft to medium hardness and is a rich deep brown colour with a hint of purple / black.
Patterns
After you have chosen the wood for your bespoke floor, the next choice is the pattern,
Our bespoke flooring is available in the following designs: Herringbone, Double Herringbone, Single Basket Weave, Treble Basket Weave, 5.1 Basket, Chevron and Parquet Design Panels.
The most popular floor design is Herringbone. Other popular designs include 5.1 Basket, Chevron & Single Basket Weave.
Finishes
Once your new floor has been laid, there are many different finishes which can be applied to protect the floor and enhance the beauty of the wood. The finish is included in the floor installation provided by Naturally Wood.
We offer 10 standard colour stains which can be applied to oak flooring, to change the colour of the wood before the finish it applied. These range from Light Oak and Antique Pine coloured stains through to darker Teak and Mahogany stains.
Our range of finishes also includes lacquers and hard wax oil in a range of colours and in matt, satin and gloss finishes.
A matt finish gives a minimal shine, a satin finish gives a medium shine and a gloss finish gives a high shine.
A lacquer finish is a surface coating which initially provides a very durable and low maintenance finish but in time will wear off, especially in high traffic parts of the floor. With a lacquer finish the floor will require completely re-sanding.
An oil finish is a surface treatment instead of a coating and gives a more natural appearance than with a lacquer. An oil finish requires daily/weekly cleaning and a coat of oil every 1-3 years. If re-oiled frequently then the floor should never have to be re-sanded. Also localised repairs will blend in better than with lacquer.
We also offer a polish and wax finish with a shellac base coat polish and wax, however the finish with this treatment is very slippery and requires regular buffing and re-waxing so we rarely use this now.
