Here are details of two commercial flooring projects we have worked on recently.
Commercial Flooring: Redbull
Redbull is one of the UK’s brightest companies. They predominantly manufacture energy drinks but are also famous for sponsoring major sporting events and extreme sports such as cliff diving, freestyle motorcross, air racing and crashed ice hockey, and music and culture live shows. They are most notable for their sponsorship of the Redbull Formula 1 racing team and also lend their name to individual sportsmen and women such as the England cricketer Stuart Broad and Welsh rugby player Jamie Roberts.
Redbulls new London headquarters, situated in the London Bridge area of the city, has been voted one of the six coolest offices in the world to work in. Our brief was to work alongside the main contractor and supply and install 500 square metres of new commercial flooring. This was part of a refurbishment project for three buildings at the Red Bull London headquarters. The areas being refurbished were offices and show room areas and the link bridges, which join two of their buildings together.
During the initial consultation with Redbull they told us that they were looking to use reclaimed material for their commercial flooring. However we suggested alternative products, which met exactly with their budget and design - and these proved to be a more suitable choice.
Following our meeting with Redbull and the contractor who was carrying out the refurbishment, we supplied and installed for their offices and show rooms 130x20mm French Oak Rustic solid T&G random length strip flooring.
French Oak Rustic is a medium hard wood with a golden light brown colour a dark grain and medium to large knots. The oak was distressed and smoked then finished with a natural oil to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. Smoking the wood requires it to be stored in a sealed tank for 24 hours. The ammonia in the tank smokes the oak wood as it reacts and leaves it with a smoked appearance. A distressed appearance is less likely to show signs of wear and tear quickly, which is ideal for high traffic commercial flooring.
We also supplied and installed 300x80mm solid Oak stair treads for the link bridges between two of Redbulls’ buildings.
We were delighted that the project was completed on time and to budget. The client was very satisfied and said afterwards that they were “very pleased with the results”.
Commercial Flooring: Innocent Smoothie Drinks
Innocent Smoothie Drinks prides itself on its ethical and responsible approach to business and its products. Based in Ladbroke Grove in West London they lead the way in using sustainable ingredients, production and packaging. 10% of all their profits also go to charity, mostly to the Innocent Foundation, which the company set up in 2004 to help some of the poorest countries in the world to develop sustainable agriculture.
As well as smoothies and juices they also produce drinks for children and vegetable pots. They are actively involved with many sponsorship and charity projects in the UK throughout the year and put their name to a summer music festival in Hyde Park.
Innocent have a new London headquarters and asked us to work with the main contractor as part of their refurbishment plans. We supplied and installed 250 square metres of new flooring to their offices and Oak for their staircase.
Innocent looked at various samples we provided and eventually decided upon 180 x 20mm French Oak engineered random length strip flooring. French Oak is golden light brown in colour with small knots in the wood and a dark grain. It is of a medium hardness so ideal for commercial flooring. The Oak was distressed, smoked and finished with natural oil. Natural oil enhances the true colours of the wood without changing them. The smoking process gives a light to medium brown colour to the wood and a smoked finish. It doesn’t affect the hardness of the flooring it just accentuates the beauty of the wood.
The work was completed on time and within the customer’s budget. Innocent Smoothie Drinks were completely satisfied with their new flooring and very pleased with how it turned out.
