Why Choose Maple Flooring
Canadian maple flooring is harder than oak, which gives it superb durability and makes it suitable for high traffic areas of your home or for a business premises. Canadian Maple has a visible grain but it is not as prominent as in many other hardwoods. Its white, bright colour will reflect light to give a sense of space in your home or work place. Maple is a popular choice for furniture and our maple flooring will work well along side any existing pieces you may have. The yellow, honey tones of maple wood give it a warm quality, which is inviting to the eye and comfortable underfoot. Maple’s natural light tones, gives a very contemporary look to your home.
Maple flooring is also ideal for business properties. It is especially good for dance floors because of its hardness and excellent stability even when using narrow widths of the wood.
About Maple Flooring
There are over 120 different varieties of Maple Tree mostly found in East Asia, with some from Europe and North America. The Canadian Maple has the Latin name Acer Rubrum, which is derived from the genus Acer. In the east part of North America the deciduous Maple tree can be seen everywhere. It particularly has a long association with furniture making in the USA. The tree flowers in the spring and these along with the seeds and twigs on a Canadian Maple tree all have a red tinge. In autumn the colour is most prevalent when the leaves turn a deep crimson. The red maple leaf is a famous image recognized all over the world from the Canadian flag.
When they are young the maple tree has a smooth bark, which grows darker brown and rough with maturity. Some maple trees grow to between 10 and 45 metres tall. However some species are not so big, only reaching the size of a standard shrub. These maples are valued for their ornamental properties making them ideal for the art of bonsai.
Maple wood has a resonance, which makes it a favourite for musical instruments. This tonal quality carries sound waves perfectly for woodwind instruments, violins, violas, cellos, double bass and drums. Maple wood guitar necks and fingerboards are popular choices for many manufacturers and some guitars with carved maple necks are collector’s items. Maple wood is also used for sport to produce bowling pins, snooker cues and baseball bats.
After timber, the main commercial property of the Maple tree is for maple syrup. This is made by boiling the sap to give a molasses type consistency and is popular in America poured on pancakes for breakfast.
Maple’s are hardy trees and therefore produce a high quality, medium hard timber, which is perfect not only for furniture but also flooring. Our Maple flooring originates from Canada. It is pale white wood with a hint of yellow and black flecks in the grain. These can deepen over time, as the yellow tones become more prominent, giving it a warm golden honey glow. Maple is a medium to hard wood.
