Naturally Wood supply and install a range of oak parquet flooring to create beautiful bespoke designs. There are all sorts of colour variations of oak timber, ranging from white to dark brown, and colours can vary from tree to tree depending on the growing conditions. Here are the types of oak wood that we supply for oak parquet flooring:

American White Oak - This is a strong wood originating from America with a straight grain, a medium to coarse texture and medium hardness. It is similar to French oak but has a hint of red in the grain. The colour of the heartwood differs from a light yellow brown to a biscuit colour.

American Red Oak - This originates from America and is a mainly straight grained timber with a coarse texture. It has a hint of red in the grain and the colour of the heartwood ranges from a light yellow brown to a pinkish colour. It is of a medium hardness.

Oak Parquet Flooring: Parquet Patterns

Here at Naturally Wood we supply a range of parquet floor patterns to suit all types of interior and we will describe these below.

Herringbone - This is a popular type of traditional flooring and can be installed either parallel to the room walls or diagonally. Herringbone parquet installed diagonally gives the illusion of more space. It is available in any width or length.

Double Herringbone - This is another popular type of traditional flooring which is a variation of the herringbone and can also be installed diagonally as well as parallel to the room walls. Like the Herringbone, the patterns are available in any width or length.

Chevron - Also known as French Herringbone, this is a variant of the herringbone and can be found many prominent châteaus in Europe. They can have any angle, length or width to suit your interior.

5.1 Basket - This type of flooring is made from five parquet battens which are designed to form a square. In most cases 5.1 basket flooring is laid across the room diagonally.

Treble Basket Weave - Treble or single basket weave is popular in many domestic homes and is made up of square tiles and rectangular battens to form a weave design. The battens are the same width as the tiles but are five times longer. Treble basket weave is normally installed diagonally across the room.

Single Basket Weave - Again this is popular in domestic homes and is made up of square tiles and wood battens. The battens are two and a quarter times longer than the tiles and are also half as wide as the tiles. Like treble basket weave, single basket weave is normally installed diagonally across the room.

Parquet Design Panels - These are normally installed diagonally across the room. They are supplied in the form of square tiles which can be in any design and can be made up of any combination of wood species.

Parquet Strip - This is a very popular type of flooring which we can supply in widths from 50 - 210 mm and in varying lengths.

Oak Parquet Flooring: Oak Parquet Finishes

Naturally Wood provide beautiful oak parquet flooring with a superb range of finishes to achieve perfect results and give you the best look for your home or business. Here we shall take a brief look at each of our parquet floor finishes:

Baked Oak/Thermo Oak/Fire Oak

This type of finish can be used on any one of our bespoke parquet designs. To achieve this look, the oak wood is put into a drying kiln oven which remove all of the moisture from the timber and changes the original colour of the wood to a dark brown with reddish hints. The quality and strength of the wood remains making it a good option for both busy commercial areas and domestic flooring.

Smoked Oak

This type of finish does not affect the durability of the wood so it can still be used in areas of high traffic in domestic and commercial properties. The natural oak is put into a sealed tank where the wood is smoked with ammonia which reacts with the tannic acid in the oak to alter its appearance. This gives the wood a light to medium brown colour.

Fumed Oak

This is another finish suitable for all our bespoke parquet designs and gives a similar finish to smoked oak but with a darker smoked surface. The wood is put into a sealed tank and is smoked using ammonia which reacts with the acid in the timber and changes the appearance of the wood to a medium to deep brown colour. The overall result gives the oak a similar look to Wenge so it can be used as an alternative. The process and does not change the quality of the wood so it can also be used in high traffic areas in commercial or domestic properties.

Other Finishes

We can also stain oak floors to give a similar affect to the finishes described above. Your timber can be coated with a dark oak, light oak or medium oak stain. If you prefer a more natural appearance for your oak parquet flooring, we can also provide a natural oil or lacquer finish.
