What is Parquet Flooring?
Parquet flooring is an attractive method of flooring first used in France, in 1684. In fact the word parquet comes from the French word parqueterie, meaning from parquet. This type of flooring consists of geometric wooden blocks arranged in a decorative manner to a set pattern or formation. It is a very practical form of flooring because it is so hard wearing and requires very little maintenance, although parquet floor sanding is required periodically during its lifetime to keep your flooring looking its best.
Parquet flooring is available in a wide range of patterns, colours and woods. However, the most popular pattern is Herringbone, where the battens are laid in such a way they resemble the bones of a fish. Herringbone parquet can either be laid parallel or diagonally to the walls of a room. Laid diagonally has the effect of making a smaller room appear larger. Other sought after patterns for parquet flooring include double herringbone, chevron, basket weave and Versailles and there are many more designs to choose from.
One of the most popular timbers for parquet flooring is oak. Oak is an attractive and durable wood and is available in all sorts of colour variations from white oak to dark brown. Naturally Wood offer parquet flooring in huge choice of woods including mahogany, beach, wenge, ash and walnut as well as some of the more exotic woods such as Panga Panga and Burmese Teak. The choice of wood really comes down to personal taste and appearance. Whatever wood you choose, we provide full aftercare parquet floor refurbishment and maintenance, including parquet floor sanding for all types of timber.

These two processes combined ensure dust levels are kept to a minimum and mean the least disruption to our customers.
Parquet Floor Finishes
Once parquet floor sanding is complete it requires finishing. We offer a range of finishes including oil, wax, stain and lacquering, at very competitive prices. All these finishes are available for parquet floors although the most popular is Osmo hardwax oil.
In general, oil or lacquer finishes are applied as a protective coating to prevent spillages and water staining the timber and damaging the overall appearance of your floor.
