About Oak Flooring

The Oak tree is tall and strong and although conditions will affect its growth rate, it can reach impressive heights of around 60 to 100 feet. An oak tree was featured on the sixpence coin and the shilling and it is also present in a lot of Greek and Roman mythology being associated with Zeus and Jupiter.

There are hundreds of types of Oak trees, with approximately 25 native to Europe and 60 species in America, including both deciduous and evergreen varieties. Oak trees produce acorns, which take between six and eighteen months to grow but the trees themselves can take hundreds of years to fully mature eventually producing an attractive and popular timber.

There are all sorts of colour variations seen in oak timber, depending not only on the exact species of oak, but also the growing conditions from tree to tree. These can range from white to dark brown depending upon the type of oak flooring you choose. This gives you a fantastic choice to fit into the décor of your home and whatever colour is right for you, solid oak flooring will always exude that warmth that comes from a natural, beautiful solid oak wood.
Oak trees produce a highly attractive and durable timber, which is a much sought after building material. It is perfect for flooring and furniture. It is even used for barrels for red wine, sherry, brandy and whisky as it adds a unique colour and rich taste to the alcohol. Due to its strength oak was used to construct ships right up until the 19th century, showing it’s hard wearing, strong and sturdy qualities. This makes oak wood the ideal material for your flooring – in any room of the house, as it is extremely durable even in high traffic areas.
