Floor Laying – The Process
Once we receive your floor laying enquiry we will discuss with you in detail your requirements for the job, such as the floor design, what wood species you prefer and the grade and finish of the wood. A full range of floor patterns, finishes and woods are available and we will help you to understand the differences between each and make the best selection to suit your home or commercial premises.
Customers can choose their new wood floor by either browsing through the wood species and floor patterns and products pages on our website and/or by reading our company brochure which can be downloaded from our website or we send out a printed copy on request. Then when we speak with you on the phone, we will take your ideas and recommend the most suitable products to create your desired floor.
If you would like an estimate provided over the phone, we can do this for you. We will need to know the total square metres of the floor to be laid and the flooring products you are interested in. In order to take the project forwards we will then arrange a site meeting to discuss any additional items which may be required to lay the floor. During the appointment we draw a plan of the area(s) and take detailed measurements. We also inspect the sub floor to confirm any required preparation works and any accessories which may be required like perimeter beading and door thresholds. We then discuss the products and agree which will be right for the job – often proposing a few options based on different price levels. This will be sent to you as a written quotation.
How We Work
Our floor laying services are generally carried out Monday to Friday however weekend work may be possible on request. We can generally install or sand approximately 15-20 square metres of flooring per day per man.
On arrival the installer will prepare the floor as per the instructions taken down at the initial site visit. This may include uplifting and disposing of old floor coverings, re-fixing and making good existing sub floors, installing plywood sub floors, preparing concrete with levelling compound and /or replacing damaged joists.
Your new floor will then be installed as described below.
Engineered Flooring
Engineered flooring can be installed as a floating floor where the T&G joints are glued together and the floor is floating on an underlay. We offer various types of underlays which can incorporate plastic DPM for concrete floors or others which can reduce the impact of sound.
They can also be fully glued with flexible adhesive to concrete or plywood and 20mm structural engineered floors can also be secret nailed through the T&G to timber sub floors and joists.
20mm Solid T&G Strip Flooring
These floors can be secret nailed to existing joists or a timber sub floor providing the width doesn’t exceed 130mm or fully glued with flexible adhesive to concrete or plywood.
20mm Solid T&G Wood Blocks / End Grain Flooring
These floors are fully glued with flexible and PU/Epoxy adhesive to concrete or plywood.
Mosaic Flooring
Mosaic flooring is installed by gluing the flooring with spirit based/2 part adhesive to concrete or plywood.
6-10mm Parquet
6-10mm parquet flooring is glued and face pinned with tiny stainless steel headless pins to a plywood sub floor.
Quality Materials and Workmanship
We aim to achieve the best quality finish in all of our wooden floor installations by using excellent products and workmanship. We regularly visit our producers and carry out stringent quality checks of their production and each order we receive at our warehouse.
Our employees have worked for us for 8-14 years and are all fully qualified craftsmen and are accredited with City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 in Wood Floor Installations. They have also passed their health and safety test and hold CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) cards which are required for commercial project sites.
Our machinery is the best available in the industry from Germany and Italy.
Naturally Wood are members of the BWFA (British Wood Flooring Association) and FSB (Federation Of Small Businesses).
