What is parquet flooring?
Parquet is the term applied to geometrically patterned wood block flooring. Wooden blocks of a chosen size, type and colour are laid down in a strict pattern formation. The number of variants is huge since there is a choice of material, a choice of colour and a choice of pattern. Popular patterns include herringbone, basket weave and chevron but there are many more besides.
Parquet Flooring Design
We provide parquet floor design for houses, dance floors, church halls, sports halls, retail shops and gymnasiums. Please see the general information section of this web site to browse the range of woods and designs our parquet floors can be laid in.
We can also supply and install floor medallions and parquet borders for a truly unique finish.
Parquet flooring is laid on site. Each piece of square edged flooring is glued and pinned in the design of your choice. The floor is then sanded and finished with either a lacquer, oil or stain to protect the floor and enhance the beauty of the wood.
Original parquet floors were 6mm thick and glued and pinned through the face of the timber with large headed panel pins. Over the years these pins have corroded and the rust has stained the timber. We now use headless stainless steel micro pins which don’t rust and leave an almost invisible fixing.
Parquet flooring is a very stable method of fixing and most wood species are compatible with water under floor heating systems.
